Biotechnology
From the Cell to the Biopharmaceutical
Biotechnology addresses the technical application of biological systems and living organisms, and their metabolic products.
This study programme is offered by the ETH Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering in Basel, and comprises a one-year Bachelor’s degree programme (only the third year) and a three-semester Master’s degree programme.
Educational objective:
Knowledge of molecular, chemical and biological processes makes possible the development and improvement of products and processes deployed in agriculture, environmental protection, food production, and particularly medicine.
Career profile:
Biotechnologists develop the corresponding industrial processes. They work in research, development and production in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries and the food industry, and act as experts in all areas of the life sciences.
