A New Understanding of Life
Over
the last few decades, biology has developed its natural history approach into
that of an experimentally focused discipline. Its goal is the elucidation of structure, function and interactions of
macromolecules, as well as understanding entire molecular networks and cell
interactions. In daily work, the latest
methods and technologies are applied.
Credits ECTS: 90
Language of instruction: English
Structure:
In the Master’s degree programme the focus is on experimental research. Students choose one of the nine specialisations and attend the appropriate courses. In view of a later career in science the majority of graduates subsequently carry out a doctoral research project.
Two 12-week experimental practicals and a six-month Master’s thesis project are the highlight and conclude the programme. The experimental project work is complemented by various lectures.
Specialisations:
Ecology and evolution, neurosciences, microbiology and immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, plant biology, systems biology, structural biology and biophysics, biological chemistry. An additional major (starting autumn semester 2014) is in the planning phase.
