Public Policy (Armed Forces Officers) Bachelor

Specialists in Conflict Prevention and Management

In the Public Policy programme prospective Armed Forces Officers of both sexes are trained in the political, social and military sciences in line with the needs of modern armed forces. The programme leads to the internationally recognised title
“Bachelor of Arts ETH in Public Policy”.

Structure:

The programme takes place at ETH, with the exception of one semester and the weeks between semesters. Humanities, social and political science subjects are covered. Practice-oriented and military training respectively weeks between semesters takes place at MILAK in practicals and during the weeks between semesters.

- Training at ETH Zurich:

Courses in humanities, social and political sciences: Political Economics, Business Administration, Law, Political Science, Security Policy, Conflict Research, History, Psychology, Socioscientific Methodology and Didactics.

Courses in military sciences: Military Hisory, Strategic studies, Leadership and Communications, Military Psychology and Educational Science, Military Sociology and Economics.

- Practice-based technological and practise related editional training at the ETH Zurich Military Academy:

Tactical leadership; Military Technology, Military didactics, Military law and practical basis of Military Sciences.


Entrance requirements:

Admission requirements fall into two categories.

Military requirements: include title of Lieutenant, completed practical military service, and pass grades in the Assessment Centre examination for future professional officers

Educational requirements: Gymnasium Matura or vocational Matura with pass grades in the supplementary examination for universities

The appointment is made through the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport.
