Public lecture: "The Environment and Health of Urban Slum Dwellers – 21st Century Africa Resembling 19th Century Europe?"

On Thursday, 13 December, a joint lecture of the Institute for Environmental Decisions (IED) and ETH Global will focus on health aspects in urban slums.
Isabel Günther, Assistant Professor for Development Economics, Centre for Development and Cooperation (NADEL), ETH Zurich, will discuss the hypothesis that the slums in developing countries are similar to European cities in the 19th century in terms of income, overcrowding and low sanitation standards. These conditions might once again delay transitions to lower mortality in the 21st century.
The lecture will be held in English.
