On 17 November, ETH Zurich celebrated its 157th ETH-Tag (its academic holiday) with guests from research, politics, and industry.
While the new Rector of ETH Zurich, Lino Guzzella, argued for trust, commitment, and creativity in education, Felix Gutzwiller, President of the Council of States' Committee for Science, Education and Culture, asked politics to adhere to their promises to education and science.
Professors Martin J. Rees and Hans G. Hornung were awarded honorary doctorates of ETH Zurich.

ETH Rector Lino Guzzella looked back at his first 100 days in his new role. He feels confronted with high expectations, but is delighted, that industry and politics show an openess for the concerns of ETH. Great education needs long-term commitment as well as joy about the own achievements and respect for those of others. To measure a university's quality with one key figure only, may be geared towards media, but will not reflect the whole truth. Outstanding academic achievements will result from autonomy, error tolerance, and a culture of enabling - key values of ETH Zurich.
