Impressions: ETH-Tag 2009

On 21 November 2009 ETH Zurich celebrated, together with guests from research, politics, army and economy the 154th ETH-Tag and thus a successful 154th academic year in the history of the university. In addition, merited researchers, teachers and students were honored for their achievements.

Academic ceremony

In her speech, Rector Heidi Wunderli-Allenspach clearly committed herself to the current education system, including vocational training. She argued to take the slogan "equal, but different" more seriously again, in order to raise the profiles of universities and universities of applied sciences. The Academic Orchestra played at the ceremony; afterwards a banquet offered opportunities for conversations.

Awards

At ETH-Tag 2009, the Rector of ETH Zurich awarded - amongst others -  the Russian-Dutch physicist Andre Geim (left) and the British environmental scientist John Sumpter (right) honorary doctors. Andre Geim is professor for physics at the University of Manchester, and John Sumpter is professor at the Department of Biology and Biochemistry and Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences at Brunel University in London.
