On 22 November 2008, ETH Zurich celebrated a successful 153rd academic year in the history of the university. In front of 600 guests from research, politics, army, and economy, outstanding researchers, faculty members and students received an award for their achievements.

In her speech, Rector Heidi Wunderli-Allenspach appealed to politics to not sacrifice ETH Zurich's competitiveness in favour of the reform of the Swiss Higher Education Area. The Academic Orchestra played at the ceremony, afterwards a banquet offered opportunities for conversations.
