In the last two centuries, the Bodmer House, built about 1664, was a literary focal point in Zurich. Today, it houses the original contents of Thomas Mann’s last study. In the Thomas Mann Archives at ETH Zurich, you can also see a large collection of manuscripts and valuable special editions, for example the first page of the "Buddenbrooks" manuscript, notebooks on "Death in Venice" and "Felix Krull", pictures and letters. There are also photographs of the writer and awards such as his Nobel Prize certificate on display.
As well as Thomas Mann’s personal library and his works in German and in translation, researchers can also use a research library containing secondary literature about the author and his works. The Thomas Mann Archives are open to the public. It is purely a reference library.
