Die berühmte Indergand Kristallgruppe vom Tiefengletscher im Kanton Uri
The famous Indergand crystal cluster of the "Tiefengletscher" in the canton Uri

focusTerra – the Earth Science Research and Information Centre of ETH Zurich – presents a cross-section of the broad spectrum of Earth Sciences for the general public in a modern setting. The exhibition provides an insight into the geological processes which form and shape the appearance of our Earth.

Subjects range from volcanoes and earthquakes to the processes at the centre of the Earth which create the Earth’s protective magnetic field, and the formation of mountain ranges. You can literally watch crystals grow, while fossil displays use plant fossils to reconstruct the history of the Earth. Social issues such as the shortage of resources are raised, and large information boards illustrate current geological events such as major earthquakes or volcanic eruptions.
