The doctorate involves independent scientific research work supervised by a professor. Doctoral students also learn the skill of teaching at university level by contributing to the teaching at their department.
ETH Zurich offers outstanding conditions for a doctorate: an innovative atmosphere, state-of-the-art equipment and laboratories, and an environment inspiring young scientific talent to be successful.
| Material scientists at ETH-Zürich are working on composite materials that mimic the structure of seashells. Such complex structures are produced using tiny magnetic particles which guide the composites' stiffer elements into place. This technique enables new technologies from durable coatings to stronger and lighter materials. [12.01.12] |
